Former porn star volunteers as EMT, small-town folks get mad

In one of the stranger news stories of the week, former adult firm star Harmony Rose has angered residents of a small town in Virginia. The reason? She’s volunteering as an EMT.

29-year-old Harmony Rose, real name Tracy Rolan, starred in over 400 films during her time as a porn star. Beginning in 2004, she worked with Brazzers, Evil Angel, Red Light District, and other major porn studies.

Despite her star-studded background, Rose’s presence on the Cave Spring Rescue Squad has generated controversy among town residents, some of whom feel that Rose’s presence on the squad will damage the town’s reputation.

County attorney Paul Mahoney sent a letter to Chief Burch, Jr. of the Roanoke County Fire & Rescue squad discussing the issue. Read the letter here. In that letter, Mahoney states that Burch should “support the decision of the volunteer chief if she decides to terminate the membership of this individual [Harmony Rose].”

However, earlier in the letter, Mahoney states that it has been the practice of Roanoke County not to interfere in membership decisions of volunteer fire departments and rescue squads. He then goes on to say that he wants to interfere in membership decisions.

Every new member of the squad must be a probationary member for six months, after which voting will determine if they are kept on as a full-time member. In addition, Harmony Rose passed the criminal background check and has a clean driving record. Still, residents don’t feel that is good enough.

Seriously? Somebody is selflessly volunteering to help out a small town, and that’s not good enough? We wish Harmony Rose the best of luck with her battle. Otherwise, I’m sure there are many other small towns interested in your services.
