Is the porn industry’s future in tablets? What about 3D porn?
Posted by: EmperorYogi
As you probably know, the tablet computer industry has exploded with growth since Apple launched the iPad in 2010. According to a recent survey, it looks like the porn industry has started to take notice.
This past week, Xbiz surveyed a group of executives and adult industry performers on where they see the industry going in the next few years. The overwhelming consensus was that both men and women will continue using free porn streaming ‘tube’ sites on their tablets and smartphones in increasing numbers.
Of course, people already view porn streaming tube sites on their tablets today. But with tablet ownership increasing, and new tablet technology emerging every day, most porn sites have already optimized their layouts for use with tablets.
The survey included adult industry webmasters, company executives, distributors, producers, ad networks, and porn performers.
The porn industry has always been quick to jump on new technology. In fact, you could argue that porn is the most heavily demanded type of media out there, which means that it has the most incentive to adapt to new technology as soon as possible. It was one of the first industries to start using VHS cassettes, and it quickly conquered the internet back in the 1990s.
The future of 3D porn and .xxx domains
The survey also revealed that most porn executives don’t plan on scooping up “.xxx” domains or branching out into 3D technology any time soon. In fact, fewer than 1 in 5 people surveyed thought that 3D would “usher in great profits for the porn industry.” The majority response was that there would be little demand for 3D porn, allowing a few select producers to profit.
In the past, Vivid Entertainment founder has chimed in on porn’s relationship with 3D technology, stating that “…3D is certainly not there yet…this could change when glasses-free 3D televisions finally make their way into the marketplace. Unfortunately, this won’t happen overnight and until then it’s really a non-starter.”
Meanwhile, Michael Klein, president of Hustler, stated that he doesn’t see the value in purchasing .xxx domain names. Due to their high price and unnecessary value, .xxx domains are placing an undue financial burden on porn companies. Klein doesn’t see any reason for consumers to seek out .xxx domains when there are plenty of good, well-known .com porn sites already available.
In fact, the only purchasers of .xxx domain names may be those seeking to protect their trademarks. This will involve more than just porn companies, as many universities have stated that they plan on buying .xxx domains to preserve the integrity of their brand (I can’t imagine a porn site called “Harvard.xxx” being good for the university’s reputation)
What do you think? Is more tablet porn a good thing? Could you see yourself watching 3D porn? Is buying a .xxx domain a smart investment? Let us know in the comments section below!
