Porn Industry Tells Rick Santorum to Drop Out of the Race
Posted by: EmperorYogi

The porn industry has proven resilient against all sorts of federal and state laws, and it can recognize when a presidential candidate wants to screw over their industry. MSNBC.com reports that porn industry execs say that Santorum’s claims about porn are ridiculous.
Specifically, Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and Vivid co-founder Steven Hirsch are speaking out against the claims made by Santorum that the porn industry is tearing apart families across the United States.
The porn industry’s main issue with Santorum is his claim that pornography is creating a “pandemic of harm” across the country and contributes to violence against women. If elected, Santorum promises to vigorously enforce federal obscenity laws which would limit the distribution and production of hardcore pornography.
In a position paper on the issue, Santorum writes that Obama favors the porn industry at the expense of children and families.
Industry execs, on the other hand, say this is ridiculous, and that Santorum is using the porn industry as his campaign’s bogeyman. There have been very few convictions for hardcore porn under federal obscenity laws, and Hirsch argues that if Santorum wants people to stay out of his church, then he should stay out of the nation’s bedrooms.
While Santorum, unlike Bachmann, hasn’t signed a pledge promising to outlaw porn entirely, his election would undoubtedly increase regulation at all levels of the porn industry.
We can’t help but wonder: is Santorum just mad at the porn industry because of his unfortunate last name?
