YouPorn and PornHub File $2.8M Cybersquatting Lawsuit
Posted by: EmperorYogi
Earlier today we told you about a $100M lawsuit filed by three porn companies against YouJizz. Today, two other porn streaming sites filed lawsuits of their own.
Manwin Licensing International – which owns YouPorn and PornHub – filed lawsuits on behalf of its two most popular streaming sites today in Los Angeles. It accused various domain owners of ‘cybersquatting’, which is prohibited under the Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act (who knew?).
All 28 domains feature some derivative of either YouPorn or PornHub, including names like ‘youporns.org’, ‘pornhub-porno.com’ and ‘youpornhubs.com’. Since the owners of all 28 domains are protected by WhoIs Guard, the lawsuit was unable to name any specific individuals.
While cybersquatting is prohibited under the act we listed above, the offending sites are also infringing on the popular porn streaming site’s copyright. One of the domains (downloadyouporn.net) uses the Youporn logo prominently at the top of its page.
The maximum fine allowed under the Anti-Cybersquatting Consume Protection Act is $100,000 per site, which works out to $2.8M total.
As an interesting tidbit of information, Manwin revealed in the lawsuit that YouPorn and PornHub are among the top 100 most visited websites in the United States. YouPorn is 94th while PornHub is 58th.
